OBITUARY.

The funeral took place on Friday last pil Riwai John Maeke,' eldest son of t&e late Karitiana Maeke and Mrs. Maeke of Waiwefcu, at the early age of 19 years. The deceased lad was beloved by all who knew him^ both. Maori and pakeha, to whom He was a^febtibnately known as " Johnny.'' Wreaths were sent by members of the Waiwetu/ Parents', Association, "V^aiwetu (Jhnreh; inemlbers, and many other friends. He had been a scholar at Bpxini Hamlet School, and afterwardse was at Otaki College.where^ if his -health had not failed him, it had been intended by hie family that he should sptidj for the dhureh. A^*!®1 * an. illness three years a.go, however, these, plans were abandoned, but the; immediate caurie of his death is attriibuted to a fall from a motor cycle some three weeks ago. The deceased lad was cpnnected by. tie marriage, of an aunt, Mrs. Te Paki, of rWaiwetu, to the family of Sir Mauri Pomare, Mrs. Te Paki's father, being i'first; cousin to Sir. Mauri. There aTe several members of the Te Paki family residing in Waiwetu, an interesting link with one so great as the late respected statesman. There were present at the lad's home, and at the funeral service which was conducted by the Bey. WV Davies, of St. Paul's Anglican Church Waiwetu/ Messrs M. and T. Love, Mesdames Or. M. and K. Love, Messrs Himter (4), Clapham, Keenan (2), Mesdam'ea CPlaherty and O'Neillj and many others. Wreat&s were sent from Epuni Hamlet School, Mr and Mrs. Thompson, Mr.C. B.'. Robinson J.P., Raupu '■Whanganui-A-Tara Committee and many; others.

The deceased, was buried at the native cemetery- in the same grave as his late: father. The sympathy of the whole district goeß ont to the another and.relatives intheir great trouble.
