.The regular meeting of the Jrlutt ■ Jt-iver Board, was heJd last week. .There word present Mr. F. 8.- ---• Hewer, chairman) and-Messrs G. A. Chapman, C. Gostelow ami J. Mitchell. .The chairman drew attention to the growing. habit of carters trespassing on the estuary for 'the purpose of securing' sand and shingle without the necessaiy permit. . Mr Gostelow moved that all that area i south and east of the training walls be j considered a prohibited, area.—Carried. dPhe Hutt s Valle^ Electric Power Board" wrote making application to erect a sub-- \ station on the stopbank at the back;.of.,, the National Bank. The engineer report-; cdi favourably on the application which was granted. . : ■ .A letter was received from the Pi-esi-' dent of the Wellington Aero Club statirig v that the club was contemplating''tlie cs» tablishment of. a private aerodrome anU , asked if the Board \vas in a position to lease Scaby Isiand. ■ : - It was.stated, ''should the ground be leased to the club, the club will proceed r'with. extensive work in the .levelling iand forming the ground,, building retaining walls,- hangers etc, the ssrhole amount of the expenditure being estimated -to run into a large sum.' V ' , . . The chairman of the Board said that Scaby Island was part of the reclamatioii. area and 7 was at present covered with gorse, anoj rushes. In reply to the question, whether the Board was in. a position to lease the Island, he had been advised by the Board's solicitor that they had power to lease it and he movea that the Aero Club be advised accordingly. The motion was tarried. It was rather early for the board to consider the question of terms'arid^ lease, until they had more information. Mr Hewer said the question was a very serious one and the board wouldi have to consider several tilings before^ granting a rlease for any length of time. As the district grow, the board would have to con- ! sider whether the reclamation should not be caTiied on more rapidly than in , the past. •: Mr Chapman was of the opinion that the Aero Club would do good and assist materially in. the reclamation. He did .not see any possibility of doing any reclaiming for many years except by natural means. He was in favour of the ,Aero Club having the use of the land for 10' years as he considered the club would make improvements in tie area, area. - /Mr, Mitchell considered that the board had done wonderfully in reclaiming the land. andr,said that the land was two feet higher than it was two years ago. The Engineer Lower Hutt 'Borough • Cowjci'l wrote regarding stormwater di^aino auc suggested that the Borough' pay to tho Board the sum of 5/- per outlet per annum. \. ' Mr Gostelow moved that a charge of 10/- per annum be made. Seconded by Mr Chapman and carried. Mr E. "W. Haldane wrote asking per; mission to widen the creek at j his property at the corner of Henau and- Penrose Streets. Mr Chapman was asked to report at j the nex4 meting. ■
