HUTT VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL v.

WAIEAEAPA HiaH SCHOOL

On August 16th two basket ball teams frmn the Hutt Valley High School travelled to Masterton to play Wairarapa High School. Tho contest was a very keen and close one, tha local team winning the A Gi'ade match while Wairarapa High School won tike B grade. The following players represented the Hutt Valley High School: A Grade—Beryl Aldous, Vcra Burns, May MeNicoll, Betty Olphert (capt), Olga Pope, Pauline Howatt. Ngairo Fleets Ethel Thomas, Hazel Clendon. B. Grade—Valeric Feist (eapt), Baehel Leggatt, Thelnia JSTowman, Doris Baker, Mnriel . Howe. Jessie Liver, Thora .Jennes, Mollie Bishop, Frances Turner. In the A Grade game the Wairarapa team made an excellent and speedy beginning scoring within a few minutes after the commencement of the game. Their forwaTds displayed excellent i combination and their accurate shooting soon gatve the home team a good lead. , ■ But the visitors- proved- .thespaselves, 'a.j niore speedy team though their shooting was not so accurate and by half- - time the score was even —6 all. At the commencement of the second half Wairarapa put up a splendid game and soon gained a lead of three points. With twelve minutes to go and the score 9—6 against them, the Hutt team made a valiant effort to improve its position and at length got past tic Wairarapa backs. A passing rush down the side of the field, a quick shoot at goal and the scoto was 9—7. The outcome of the game was uncertain ,1131111 the last whistle but tho visitors* persistence and speed eventually w«n for them the game, the final score being Hutt 13, Wairarapa 12.

The B Grade match was just as evenly contested as the other, the teams being even at &alf time—s all. In the second half, however, Wairarapa succeeded in winning, the score being: Wairarapa 12, Hutt 11.
