The Winkle-Twinkle Pup Goes For a Ramble. There was once a Winkle-Twin-kle Pup who went to his mother •and said, "Please Mother, may I go for a ramble by myself ?" ''Ah, you are not old enough," said his'mother. "Wait a little while, i' So the Winkle-Twinkle Pup waited a whole day; and that wasn't easy. Then he went to his mother and said, ''Please Mother, I want to go by myself for a ram r ble."- ' ■ ; ..'■ "But you <fan't," said his motker. "You &-c- not old enough.' *' What!—not yet ? " cried the AYhikie T Twinkle Pup. ' ''No, not yet," said his mother. Then the Winkle-Twinkle Pup ■waited two whole days; and, oh, that was difficult, Aftei- that^he went to his mother-arid said, Mother, I want to go for ii. rarable." fC "Well, you caii't." said his mo•thov. ''You aretiot old enough,"> " What'—iiot yet ?'' cried the Winkle-TwinMe Pup. '.;■ "No not yet," said his mother^ Then the Winkle-Twinkle: Pnp; yasina great way. He. felt sure-' ihat anybodyr^vho looked at him could, tell £hat he was old enough to go-fora ramble. '■ And iio>v lam off far one,''. said he; t arid' away he went. . : ■■;, .. He visited first' the"babbage bed and there he had a fine time. Then j he came to the; yard, and there he found a lot of little yellow fluffy things playing about. "Ah, I will have a game with you, now " thought the.Winkle-Twinkle Pup, and he was just going to, when .a great fluffy hen came rushing tow-ards him, and her feathers sticking out. At the same nioment the farmer's boy came along and saw the Winkle-Twinkle Pup. ''Well, I declare."■what are you' doing here among- the chickens?'' <-ried he. Arid he took.the Win T kle-Twinkle Pup by the scruff of his neck, and, pinched-his car anci tweaked Mshtail and slapped him: Then he put him outside the yard; -and said, "Now you had betfter scurry home again, or something worse will happen to you 1"
The WinkleTTwhikle Pup hurried away as fast as': he could, <md told his mother all about it. \
' ' There, what' did; I; say % ' 'said his mother. "Didn't I tell you you were not old enough to go/ rambling by yourself yet.?. Well, I will forgive ybii this time, and' perhaps to-morrow I will take you for a ramble and teacK you all the things .that must be left -alone." '
