OBITUARY

LADY HECTOR.

Tin; death occurred at her late residence, Pretoria Street, on Sunday last of Lady Hector, widow of the late Sir. James Hector^ af the age of 81. Lady Hector, who had been in indifferent health for many years, was the daughter of the late Sir. D. Munro, first Speaker of the New Zealand Legislative Council. The deceased lady was born at Nelson and was married in 1868. She is survived by two sons, Mr. B. Hector ancl Dr. C. M. Hector, and by tferee daughters, Mrs. L. G. Faxby, Christchurch, Mrs R. J. Barton, Upper Plains/ Masterton, and Miss Hector of Lower Hutt, and by one brother, JCr. Cv J. Munro, Palmeraton North. * Lady Hector had four other sons who pre-deottas-ed -her. The late Sir James Hector tfied in 1907. • -

The funeral took place at the Taita Cemetery yesterday, the service betag conducted by Archdeacon Hansell.

Being an honorary ranger for the "Wellington Acclimatisation Society,. he was one of the few. persons privilegved to wander at will over tile ■reservesat Orongorongo where he frequently camped* and was a recognised authority on the native flora and fauna. Howas one of the foundation members of the Lower Hutt Volunteer Fire Brigade and for a short term held the position of captain. The funeral took place in St. James's Cemetery, the service^ being conducted by Archdeacon Ifansell.
