UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT DANCE.

A big crowd and a Itappy one promptly filled the King George Hall lajre Saturday night, the occasion being the Benefit Dance, held under the auspices of the Association Football Club in aid oi: the Mayor's Unemployment Fund. From near and far came the dancers, Lower Hult and Petone being well represented, but many coming from Well ington and other parts. To Miss Francis Hobbs, Main Road, went the loveliy cake donated by Mr. Grahfcham as a Monte Carlo prize, while Miss McTiernan, Camp R<tad, was the lucky winner of a beautiful box of stationery. TJic partners of these ladies received tins of cigarettes. . Later in the evening a flag, kindly 'lent by the Borough Council, was used for a small coin shower, the dancers responding right willingly and the satisfactory sum of 17/3 being thereby added to the dance receipts. ••■•_ Mr. Logan very pleasingly and efficiently discharged the duties of J&.C. while Mr. Money, Petone, kindly played the extras. The rafflei being held in connection with this Benefit Dance will be drawn for on Monday August 4th under police supervision, the result boing published i hottT next issue. There will also.be published the complete balance-sheet'of this unemployment -effort, and •• this should prove interesting reading,. in-, teresting as a financial statement, yet,, figures apart, even more interesting;, in the human serece, bespeaking as it doesthe heartfelt sympathy and kindly thought of workers employed for workel's unemployed.
