WAIWETU PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION.

GENERAL MEETING.

Mr. Alex Anderson presided at the general meeting of the Waiw-otu Progressive Association held last week. The secretary reported tha»t the dep.utajtiori to the Railway Department to ask for improved services on the Waterloo Line had. duly met' the General Manager of Railways who promised to give the Association Ts request careful consideration No further reply had y-et come to hand.

A letter was received from Mr. Kash M.P., stating that the Postal Department could not agree to the erection of slot-telephones in the district as it was not considered that the -district had developed sufficiently. It was decided to supply Mr.. Nash with further information on the matter and to ask him ■to press the further. It was also decided to. ask him to take up the matter of haying the nuisance caused by the noise from the Worshops' '' rumbier" removed. ■•■.'■ , .

A reply in answer to the Assoeiaiioa's request, for street lights in Bbdney Street and Bossiter Avenue, was

received from the Borough- Engineer stating that" their installation had been authorised.

The question of fire alarms in the district was 'brought up and it' -was decided to place the position before the local Fire Board.

The fact that 'horses were being allowed to wander at night in the jdistrict was hotly commented on by spme members who had had their footpath iberma destroyed.. >A ease was instanced where this had happened three times to one resident. It was decided to bring the matter to the notice 01 the Council and to ask that if the offenders be caught that a heavy penalty be pressed for. .

employment Loan. He also outlined the position in regard to the various works which -had been promised and kindly answered a number of questions put to him. At the conclusion of the meeting he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. >
