CORRESPONDENCE.
■Sir,r—The question of -st raying stock .on : .public highways is one<that .is^very rarely ventilated, in the press: anyway, ■But. in. and around tile Lower borough this nuisance is fast .becoming intolerable. The Bell Block Suib-divi-: sion, Riverside ..Drive,- Wainui Road,' and Bell Road, is apparently an El; I)orado .for all kinds!; Of animals ' let; loose by thoughtless owners. Quite re-, cently several residents in tne above localities hsvp; gone t6;:mu2h troWble in preparing lawns arid 'gardens, improving the landscape, and attempting to comply, with the borough by-laws. But the work has t>eou ruined aad the plots resemble a. ploughed paddock, by the depx-edatlor-s of straying horses and cattle. The amateur gardener.s can very well'imagine the feelings of >Ms fellow eitizeu- in such circumstances. One -real dent was so incrensea that measures of a particularly drastic nature are being taken and my' advice to ali owners of stock who are in the habit- of grazing animals jpn other people's pre perty is to ke.ep horses and cattle properly and adequately fenced in. I need hardly say, sir, that the N nuisance complained of is an ever pr9sen£\menaee ,on tho. Toads at. night, there mayi be some excuse for it in small towns and settlements, but, in a borough such as Lrower Hutt it is extremely. difficult to understand such a nuisance is permitted to exist.—:l am etc., .
