HUTT VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIP

A start Avas made last week Vitlx what is really the first Hutt Valley amateur billiavcis championship. The tournament for which sixteen entries have been received, is being held in Mr W. B. Jarden 's billiard rooms, Petone. The draw was made by Billiards Limited and the table was tested to conform to proper championsliip requirements. The draw is as follows: W. Baigent v. H. Edmonds; C. Mehaney v. W. Crooks: W. G. Fitzgerald v. H. L. Watson; P, Devirie v. A. Konan; L. Coffey v. A. Woodberry; A. Love v. H. S. Kyle; G. Rounds v. F. Lawson; P. Cotter v. H. S. Stone. All rounds before the final are 300 points up, and the final round'soo points. ■'Last evening Ronan^. beat Devine 300 to 288. Neither player appeared to be able to get going, the highest break being 33, made by Ronan. The second game in the first round of' the Hutt Valley Billiards Championship was played between W. r G. Fitzgerald and H. L. Watson. Tlie : former reached 300, making breaks of 42 and 50 in a masterly manner. There will be no play in the championship on Friday or Saturday evenings. There was an attendance of about 100 spectators for the opening 'match, which ! was refereed by Mr H. J. Shanks, who in an impromptu speech referred to the very fine sportmanship of the "Chronicle" in donating such a very fine cup and also to the other gentlemen^ who donated trophies'." . Mr Shanks, will play an exhibition match, with the winner' of the ehanipionship. .
