HUTT RIVER BOARD.

The regular meeting of the Hntt River Board was held on Tuesday evaniag..'- There were present Mr. F. C. Hewer (chairman;, and Messrs C. Gostelow., G. A. Chapman, and J. Mitchell. The engineer. Mr. H. Siadden was also in. .attendance.. The chairman reported that in company with the engineer he had met the representatives of the Hutt ; Valley. Development Co., and arranged that supplies of shingle should be drawn from north of the swing bridge at Haywards at 1/3 per yard royalty. An application from the borough engineer to put N storm water drains through the stop bank was referred to the *olic:itoT to ascertain what powers were possessed by the Board in the matter. I The Public Works Department wrote I asking for the payment of £150, being the balance of tile cost of clearing the i outlet of the Waiwetu stream. The chairman stated that the work ihad cost £750 and a first-class job had been carried out. The money was well spent. The amount was passed for payment. An application was received from the Hutt Borough Engineer submitting plan for subdivision near Botdcott Street,^ and asking t&at a small portion of the stop bank be removed. The Board's engineer pointed out that there was a tendency for an accumulation of shingle to collect near Stellin's and this might allow the flood water to eoine over the golf links. It was unwise to make any drastic alteration to the height of the stop banks. Mr. G-ostelow Siad no objection.to the stop "bank being lowered to "within 18 inches of the level of the terrace. fThe Board to allow the work ; ito be caTried out subject to. the appToval of its engineer. • The solicitor forwarded leases of Gear Island for the approval of v the Board. .
