The report of the Committee was as follows:— Widening Brunswick Street. —Your , Commitee has to report that it has been asked to re-open negotiations for the purchase of Mr Mouat's property -with a view to completing the widening of Brunswick Street. As the price asked' is only £25 under that at which it was offered two years ago, and is far above the Committee's idea of the value of the property, your Committee has replied to the effect that it is not prepared to consider the matter until the property is offered at a price which it-considers is nearer its true value. Mr Mouat'a i front fence is encroaching three feet on Brunswick Street and he has been served, with the necessary notice ordering the I removal of the fence to its proper ; alignment. Proposed £65,000 Loan.—Your Committee has to report that it has jreceived, advice from the Loans' Board that it is prepared to extend the £30,000 .portion of the loan, which covers the . tar sealing work provided for, from seven years to ten years. This woulci involve a payment of 13f per cent for ten years on the £30,000 portion and 7J iper cent for thirty years on the £35,000 portion, meaning that the standing charges fox interest and sinking fund on the whole loan would be £6,650 per annum for ten yeais and £2525_ for a' further twenty -years. In view of the above circumstances your Committee has to recommend that Council take no further steps . regarding the placing of these proposals before the ratepayers. ■ Cr.
