A GIFT EVENING.

Miss Donkin, a brkle-to-be, was the guest of honouT recentily at a gift evening, Mr and Mrs F. Eusihton being tie host and hostess. There were aibout

sixty guests present at the Scouts' Hall and a particularly jolly timo was spent ■by everyone. Miss DonMn was the recipient of a great number of'ornamental and useful gifts, including china ware, crystal, kitchen utensils, and oven accessories for the wasi-thouse. Mr. Donkin made, on beihalf of his daughter, very -feeling -acknowledgment of these gifts and thanked tiheir host and hostess for a. very . delightful; evening. A speciad presentation took place during the evening when Mr. G-oldflnoh, on behalf of tiie Lower-Hutt Ladies' Miniature Rifle Cltiib, asked Miss Donkin to accept a beautifiil eight-day clock. Mr Donkin thanked the club for tiheir gift to his daughter. Dancing, games and a delightful supper aiso contributed greatly <to the enjoyment of the guests. During the evening Miss Hadyn recited. Mrs itusfotQn was wearing a frock of •Jnavy blue, eel-anese.satin, while th« ■guest of honour was in lemon georgette, her mother's frock being a ' French model in lelaek beaded georgielt^ej The '' Aroha " ondiestra provided tihe music for the dancing and . those present felt that the excellent ! music was responsible in no small degree for the success of the evening. The hall was decorated with, streamers and as the dancers also were enveloped with niulti-coloured streamers and showered with confetti, the scene was a very gay one. This most enjoyable party was brought to a close'with the singing of "The More We Are Together," "For She's a Jolly Good Feillaw," and "Auld Lang Syne."
