EJECTION OF CHAIRMAN
A meeting of the Hutt Valley Electric Piowor Boastl was hold last Present: Messrs A. W. Pxess (eharrinan), A. J. MeCurdy, A. J. Hobbs, A. Anderson, A. Walker, E. WindleyyW. H. P. Barber, L. Stewart, J. W. Mcßwan. Mr Hobbs moved that the remuneration be fixed at £200 the same as last year. Mr Barber seconded. ; Mr Press, retiring chairman, moved as an amendment that the remuneration be £100. He considered that now they had;- a General-Manager the,, position of chairman would be a sinecare. . ■ ~ ' ../ .' Mr Anderson said the retiring chairman had- accepted the £200, and it HI became liim to suggest a reduction for the incoming man. Mr "Walker seconded the amendment. Mr Barber said that the board was not paying as high, as other boards. There was a certain amount of odgnity to be kept up. He considered tlie honorarium should remain at £200; Mr Stewart thought that £200 was not too much to pay the chairman. The position took up a good deal of time and they were not paying nearly as much as other boards of a similar size. Mr Hobbs said Mr Press was not consistent with his previous , action. Mr Press had moved that the members get £2 instead of £1 for a meeting. That was never carried out. Mr Press was also in favour of paying £200 to the past chairman and now that he was retiring wanted to Teduce the honorarium by £100.
Mr McCurdy said Mr Press should withdraw .hie^ motion. He thought Mr Press J|£<3" only moved the amendment to get a discussion. Mr Windley said he had never been dbtairman. He was surprised at Mr Press's motion at the present time. It haci taken all the members by surprise coming from him.
Mr McEwan said the chairman, should bo in very close touch with what is going on at the office. He thought the £200 little enough. .
Mr Press said lie was again an aspirant for the office and > thought £100 sufficient. He -wished to withdraw his motion.
Mr Walker said he would not accept the responsibility and work of chairman for £200. The retiring chairman had done a lot of work in straightening tip the affairs of the boaroi.
The motion was put and carried. Mr Hobbs moved that >lr E. Windley be elected chairman. Mr Barber seconded. Mr McCurdy moved that Mr Press be re-elected. ; ' "
Mr Walker/ seconded A ballot resulted in Mr Windley being
returned
Mr Windley waß congratulated by the members on being elected to the chair.
Mr Press was thanked for the work he bad carried out oiuring his term of Office. Mr Hollands congratulated the chair-
man and assured him of the loyal support of himself and every member of the staff: • .
Mr Windley returned thanks and said he felt honoured by being" returned. Mr Press haoj rendered good service to the board. He relied on the Engineer-General Manager to carry out the affairs of the board to the satisfaction of the members. He felt sure Mr Hollands was quite capableto control the affairs of the board. ■ "' \, • ■, ■
Mr Hollands paid a compliment to Mr Press for the valuable assistance rendered him at all-times. .
Mr MeEwan niqved that a motion of appreciation be placed on the books of the Board in regard, to the services ren-^ oared by Mr Press to the Board.
Mr McCurdy seconded.—Carried.
