GIFT OF CLOTHING TO RED CROSS.

&yx—l would be glad if you would find space, to thank the anonymous donor, of Lower Hutt, for a parcel of clean warm underclothes',.' shirts, .etc., delivered at Eed Cross Headquarters in Dixon Street, on "Wednesday last. The woollen single v ts were truly a "find" particularly w-ith the winter in front of us, and from all visible evidences, as bad us, any we have known, if not worse, from "the point of view of unemployment, with consequent inability t» buy oven the-barest-, necessities-of clothing.

The people to whom these t-Mrigs arc given,, are of the really needy respectabl class, often-in work, but from various reasons, chieflly sickness of the bread-winner, or his. wife, .they: have not b»en aWe to replace .worn-out ..eldtihes or shoes. I am not exaggerating whenI say that many men have worn their shoes so long that tihere is the likeli.hood any moment of- the sole parting with the upper, even insoles ate worn through, and- heels dropped off. These people have - not, even the ; few pence to buy at junvbie/ sales, many are from our own district,- and they -have called in when in town in seae^L of work, or Oinving obtained work, need shoes or shirts':to go to it in. It is hoped to ibe able to start such a.^ork in our own ■district, the-need is urgent, and I feel sure t>hat. if ( it can be. started, an appeal to the p-üblie for clean, we^raible garments (it is necessary to stress the word wearable-^ will "meet with a fine" response. Many motheTs of families are marvels at. cutting down big garments to small ones, not to mention tihe marvels <they accomplish in cutting down their own wants to the finest points. —Yours faithfully, •p. E. JOYCE, Hon. Secretary Ladies' Auxiliary

Bed Cross Society.
