"Well, if you go to the Wishing Well in Dusky Woods," said the Gew-Gaw Gnome, "you'll find an old Goblin who will let you wish at the Well."

"I'll go at once," said Mrs Kangaroo, bounding out. of. her house, and "in six big jumps she landed at the Wishing Well. The old Goblin rubbed his eyes sleepily and said, ">Vhat do you want?" -■~.■-•■- ■„ . ."I want to wish at the Wishing Well," said Mrs Kangaroo. "Lean over the Well and look into it, and when you see your two eyes shining in the water, say your wish over three times,'' grumbled the Goblin. Mrs. Kangaroo looked into the ■Well, saw her two eyes shining in the water, and said three times, ;<I wish for a nice big pocket to I carry my little baby in." ' * Now go home," said the Goblin, "and if when you get there your wish has come true, be sure to throw a handful of crumbs out of your door for the birds o^ Dusky Woods-" So Mrs Kangaroo went jumping home, and when she got into her parlour, Katie Kangaroo cried, ;MMummie!.;■ ■■ What:-auloviely j big pocket you've got iri your lap. V "Jump in!" cried Mrs. Kangaroo. . Katie jumped hi,' and Mrs Kangaroo was" so happy that she threw lots and lots of crumbs ;outside her door for the birds of Dusky Woods. Then she collected her. parcels and went her long journey to see her mother. ■ When she got there, her mother was* so pleased, to see her that she got better at once. As for Katie, she had a-lovely ride inher"Mummie-'s pocket; and now every Mummie Kangaroo carries her babies in a big pocket just like the one Mrs Kangaroo first got at the Wishing Well.
