CONCERNING MAN SHE MARRIED
An amazing story was related at the Kogarah Court, Sydney, recently when George Turnbull, 42 was charged with having obtaineci £400 and a gold ring set with diamonds valued at £50 by false pretences. >.
Mrs Sparrow, a widow, said that Turnbull called at her place at Kogarah in January, 1929 and told her he was a prospective buyer of her place. They took a liking to one^-another and a few weeks afterwards they married. After the marrmge she had sold her furniture anoi upon his suggestion, she allowed him to take care of the £80 she had received for it. * Subsequently he told her he had lost the money. He next borrowed two amounts totalling £150, from her, and told her he lost that also. When she remonstrated with him and said she disbelieved his story, he said: "I am teHng yon the truth. I love every hair on your heaca. 7' Subsequently she gave him £50 with which to buy clothes and £50 to buy a motor lorry. He did not return this m«ney. She paid £150 deposit on a residential and gave him £15 to pay an instalment, but ha kept the money. Later he stole her purse containing £20. She had also given him a diamond ring to have it reset and he retained that also.
While Mrs Sparrow was giving evi-' dence culled out that Turnbull was. her. husband.
Mr Cohen, S.M. committed Turnbull for trial. Bail was fixed at £300. '
