POWER BOARD RATES.

(To the Editor)

•Shv —The new schedule of Rates for water heating recently circulated by the Power Board being somewhat difficult to understand, I sought further enlightenment on the subject. As there are doubtless, a large number of subscribers not fwily conversant with the new scale it may help them to know just what they will have to pay when the scale operates. Under Rate J. witih a Thermoslatic control, the present rate is £6 per annum. This is increased as from Ist May next to £10, less 15 per cent, less a further percentage of one penny in ' the shilling for prompt payment, making the amount payable £7/15/2, an increase of £1/15/2 for twelve months^ : ' '

Rate E. is f ot-an electric range with a change over switch, which, means that the two services cannot be . used together, After all discounts have been deducted the amount payable will be £5/10/- or 10/- less than is being paid under the present Rate J. ■

The choice lies between a reduced rate with, a much inferior service or a sligflitly increased rate with the present excellent supply.

Trusting this may. be more clearly understood than the Power Board's circular, —lam etc., ■

E.J.B

The subject of the above letter was submitted to the Engineer-G-eneral-Manager of the Hutt Valley. Electric Power Board, and the following information was obtained:—-

Almost all electrical rates are somewhat difficult to understand by the ordinary laymen, and when preparing new rates every endeavour was made to make them as simple as possible with the, object of conveying to the Board's consumers an intelligent interpretation. This, we believe, was done when the Advance Domestic Circular was tabulated, and forwarded to all consumers who are using electricity for the heating of water.

T«he Hutt Valley. Electric Power Board's new rates for water heating are lower than those operating by other Power, Board,?,, and the Wellington City Council. .

Bate '' X" as far as we can ascertain^ is the lowest rate in the Dominion for similar service. For consumers who have, or intend to install, electrical ranges, Kate "X" has specially been prepared to reduce the thbusehold bill.

The reduction in the rates for electrical cooking will amply repay those who have to pay a slightly increased charge for water heating providing they a-'o nbt % asking too much, or ihave installed water heating in excess of the ordinary domestic Tecjuiremehts.

The full rates for all services can be obtained on application to the Board's officers. The Board's staff will gladly give full particulars, and advise all present and intending consumers as to Jhe best rates applicable to theirparticidaT service.

A few monthly comparisons will convey to our readers the Board's endeavour to-give equal, if not better rates, than tOiose operating elsewhere., r Oommercisal Lighting. H.V. Power Board : Wgtbn, C.C.
