"Yes, let's" said Betty eagerly, but iJ.v' jnext moment she cried mit iii great trouble, "Oh, Jack, V --c droi ped all my diamonds!" <:'Stupid!" cried Jack "tr'-.v you've spoiled all our plan!" "I'm 1 very sorry," said Betty meekly, "but praps you've got enough to fill the boats. "Praps I have," answered Jack, feeling in the pocket of his blouse. vThen his face t grew troubled, and he fumbled in his pocket more and more quickly but without finding -even .the smallest diamond. -
.: '' Pr 'aps some pixie has stolen them from, you, 2' said Betty kindly, and they both looked round as if half expecting to seea bad little fairy running. away.
Instead of a pixie,;.* however, they saw mother beckoni fng to them to go back at once. ■*
They had to walk through the waves to reach her, and when they* told her of all they had meant to do with the lost diamonds, she said,"Never mind. You.will find more to-morrow, and I shall be. proud of the car you buy'for me." .
So Jack ancl Betty dreamed that night of the wonderful things they would do with their money, and of the wondrous things they would see in the Once-upon-time Country to which their little boat would surely carry them next, day.
