The Inspector of Awards proceeded : against H. S. Budding €or failing tQ notify the Wellington Plumbers' Union that he had employed a plumiber who was not registered in the Wellington Plumbers' Union. The . defence was that the man was registered in the Christchurch Union, -and as the -award was for a district whic-h. covered •Canterbury this was considered suffici- • eat. The Bench held that, , though the wording of the award was not clear on t-iie question, it must bo recognised, that the award was drawn by a layman and must be interpreted in the light of conn-on-sense, and it - was evidently the intention that men should be registered in the union of the district in which, they worked. A penalty of -£2/10/- would bo imposed. Mr. C. B, Barrett appeared for Dudding.
