MINIATURE RIFLES.

HUTT VALLEY LADIES' CLUB

-The official opening of the above mentioned club was held at the Empire Range on Tuesday, 25th March, when a verylarge gathering of shootists of both sexes met to wish these very popular lady shootists, the best of luck in the coming season. Mrs Child, the club's popular president, introduced the Club Patron (Mr Parkinson) to all present. Mr Parkinson in a very happy speech, spoke of the very high esteem in which the members of this club are held, by the sporting fraternity of the Valley, and he was proud to be patron of such a jolly""club, and congratulated the ladies on their fine attendance. He wished them every success in every way. Mr Parkinson then declared the range open by firing the first shot of the 1930 season.

Mrs Parkinson,. wife of the patron, was the recipient of a very handsome bouquet. Quite a nice surprise was created with Mrs Childs, being presented with a floral horseshoe in the club coloutb and a gold key of the Hutt Valley Ladies' Club attached, which was presented by a very keen and interested supporter of the Club, in the person of Mrs Arthur McGhie. ..•_■'.

The shooting section of the evening was composed of two teams, namely, the captain's and vice-captain's, and some really good shooting was the order of the contest; the captain's team gaining a win by a small margin of points. The following ladies and gentlemen were the successful competitors:—^Petone Ladies, Miss Pratley, first, Mrs Thressman, consolation; Petone Working) Men's Club, Mr Mclntyre first, -Mr Parkinson, consolation^ Petone Central, Mr Ashman, first, Mr R. Pugh, consolation.

After a very dainty supper was served: by the ladies of the Club, dancing was indulged in to a late hour. The evening concluded with, three hearty cheers for the ever-popular Hutt Valley Ladies' Rifle Club.
