BEHIND THAT CURTAIN

Earl Bigger's Mystery Drama of (Scotland Yards "Behind That Curtain' 7 ■will be shown at King George Theatre on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The story is that Sir George Mannering is a-man of wealth and power who employs-- Hilary Gait, a barrister who makes a specialty of conducting secret investigations of persons' under suspicion to inquire into the past of a man whom the baronet, regards with ex- . treme disfavour. On the very evening which' brings bhe investigation to a -close, Gait is visited in Ms office by John Beetham, an explorer of Far Eastern desert regions.; -The explorer threatens Gait with serious trouble if the barrister does not stop prying into his personal .affairs, as tthis might interfere with Beetham 's projected desert expedition. The two are alone

during, this scene. A few hours liter Gait is murdeTed in his office. This 'is'1 undoubtedly caused, by a .mysterious caller who escapes after placing a pair of curiously embroidered Chinese slippers on the feet of his victim. The mysterious killer is trailed by --xxred Pornick, night porter who scents pos-"* sible blackmail^ possibilities; TQiese slippers seemingly are the only clues which;the polce are able to find. Some | of Scotand Yard's best men are assigned to carefully comb Gait's life histoTy in order to trace every possible | motive (an enemy) for such a crime. It is evident that Beefcliam is in love with Eve Mannering,, Sir - George 's niece. The girl, however, effects a clandestine marriage with Eric Durand the very 'man whom her uncle is suspicious of and whom Gait had investigated up to t>le time of his death. Eve and Eric sail for India. The groom proves to be unfaithftul playing about witih. native women. The girl is saddened and does not know to whom to tuini. In fact Durand proves to be everything that Sir George had suspected.

It is a breath-taking climax whic-h unravels the tangled threads most satisfoctorily . . .and brings John and Eve their much deserved happiness.
