SHANDON CLUB
The annual meeting of the Shandoa Golf Club was fceld last week. The president (Mr J. M. Ellis) presided over an attendance of 50 members. '
'The president expressed pleasure at the satisfactory outcome of the negotiations with the Hutt River Board whereby the club now enjoys a five years' lease of portion of Gear Island, sufficient for an 18-liole course. He explained that it waa hopedl to have 13 holes available in the near future and the proposed programme would ultimately provide for an 28----hole golf course capable of pennittißg first-class golf. A suitable golf nous© was also being considered. Prize winners of the principal events during the season were as follows:— Club championship and Andrew cup: W. R, Stuckey; runner-up club championship: M. R. Bowring; junior championship: R. T. Poole; Bould Cleek bog«y ' competition: J. S. Hunter; presidents trophy: J. S. Hunter; captain's trophy: D. Wilson. Ladies' Club. Club championship : Mrs C. Fuller; Boui-ke cup: Miss E; Oughton; L.G.U. bronze medal: Miss K. Pownall; . captain's trophy: Mifia Hodgins; Miss Barnett's trophy: Mrs C. Fuller; Miss Thompson's trophy: Miss K. Pownall.
The following officers were elected for the lensuing year:—Patron, Mr T. M. Wilford, K.C.J president, Mr J. M. Ellis; vice-presidents, Messrs S. P. Andrew, W. T. Strand, O. B. Ferguson, E. B. Vance and JT. W. Hodd;, captain, Mr €L A^A. Swan; hon. sec. Mr J. W. Fergie; hon. treasurer, Mr A. F. Clapcott; hon. auditor, Mr J. C, White; committee, Messrs -3. S. Hunter, W. P. Pringle, j. B. Pearson, W. B. Sjuckey. Ladies' Com: mittee: Captain, Miss L. Ellison; no*, sec, Miss Hay-Mackenzie; committee, Mesdanies J. S. Hunter, J. Low and Miss Kitty Pownall.
A hearty vote of thanks was passed 1 to the retiring hon. secretary (Mr J. S. Pearson) for his outstanding work Storing the last five years and pleasure w«» expressed that he could see his way to accept nomination as a member of th* committee for the ensuing year. Votes of thanks were also passed to Mr M. G. Rogers, retiring^hon. treasurer (who is leaving for. England shortly), to Mr S. P. Andrew for use of room and
to the ladies' committee for the afternoon tea arrangements during the season, and all who had assisted the ckib during the past year. Members were enthusiastic as to th« clubs future. The committee will leave no stone unturned in providing for an official opening on the earliest possible date. "
A vote of thanks^to ;the chair concluded a very successful meeting.
