ST, PATRICK'S CONCERT.
St. Patrick's Night! The night when the sons and daughters of Erin love to gather together and listen to the sweet old melodies and watch the dancing which stirs tiheir blood and brings back happy memories of days gone by.
Last Monday night was no exception to the rule and the Catholic School Room was crowded to overflowing to. hear the programme specially arranged" for tie occasion.
The concert, from start to finish, was a decided success, and reflected great credit to the organisers. Special mention must be made of Mrs W. J. O'Shea who arranged the programme, and worked very hard to ensure a good evening for every one. '
The opening item, a trio for two "violins and piano, of National Airs, played^ by Mesdames Dunne, Glennie and Miss Elsie Jones, was very well received.. Miss Kathleen Anderson charmed all by *her beautiful singing and had to re-spond-to a very emphatic encore. Next came Miss Nancy Willians whose spirited dancing contributed greatly to. the success of the evening. Mr. Assherton Harbord, who proved a host in himself, sang "A Little Bit of Heaven" so sweetly that it was worth going a long ..way to >hear. In the second half of the programme Mr Harbqrd_ entertained with a very clever musical sketch The Irish people love the violin, and the .audience were highly deligflhi'ed witih Miss Majorie Fletcher's artistic violin solos. Mr Ryan who made his first appearance at a Hutt concert, sang with good expression and his items 1 were very enjoyable. Mrs O'Shea and j Miss Elsie Jones contributed the ever!
popular duet "Tell Her I Love Her So," and for the encore Migs Elsie Jones sang with sweetness and expression the beautiful song ' 'She is Far From tie Land." Little Patty Keir, who is" always' a favourite, recited "Grannie's Shamrock," and had to respone to a very hearty encore, when something in a lighter vein was given. Miss Mona Carrick, whose beautiful organ-like voice is always" a. treat to listen to, sang "Mother Maehree" in a way t»h"at. appealed to' all and was rewarded by hearty applause, and a charming little song was given as an encore. Miss Winifred Blake's singing of <'Tairy Tales of Ireland" was thor-
oirghly enjoyed; this young lady has a voice that shows great promise. Miss Mivriel Adams, Misses Fletcher, Bolton and Mt Harbord played the accompaniments.
At tiae close of the concert Rev. Father Daly expressed his gratitude, and thanks to all who had in any way helped to make the evening the~ success -it had been.
Supper was served and St. Patrick's Night brought to a very happy close.
