LOWER HUTT COUNCIL

The fortnightly .meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held on Monday . night. Present Mayor (Sir Alex. Roberts); Crsi A. Grierson, J. IX S. Patrick, W, G. Meldrum, A. Mcßaiii, J. R. Boyd,'A. E. Carver. M. •H, Webster wrote asking the Council to fix a fair valuation, for the property situated in Victoria Street and purchased from the Council. The Town Clerk stated that the Valuer General consideredi the valuation to be fair and reasonable. r The Mayor explained that the section was valued as one section and afterward^ subdivided into two sections by. the Council. Mr Badson, Principal of the I Hiitt High School was granted the use of the Hiitt Recreation Ground 'on April 19th and 21st. ' •

At the request of the Hurfct County Council. it was agreed that the Borough j Council take over the administration^ of the sewers in the Fairfield -Estate, subject ,to the latter body being indemnified against loss of fees. '

Cr. Patrick" said the Coiineil were quite wi-tiin its rights in expressing its opinion on such an" important, matter. The importance of aviation; was not coafined only to the Hutt River^ Board. Or Grierson seconded and' said the 'Council would at all time welcome helpful criticism from any other local body. They were also ratepayers of the River BoaTd and had every right to express an opinion. ,

month of February that the revenue was £39 7s 3d. The, number of adults visiting the baths 174, children 3958. The total takings for the season up to February £144 Is lOd as against £181 11s 10dfor the same period last year. .

The .Librarian reported for the month as follows :-r—Number of books taken out 1620, new book's added 40, new subscribers 12, members withdtew 10, total number of subscribers 305'; juvenile subscribers 27. • /. "; ,

Cr. Boya asked that steps be taken to -get the Railway department to erect shelter sheds at the.bus stops.
