Wherever tiiis picture has been shown in Germany, Prance, and even the United States, the Press /'has given it unstinted praise, describing it as a landmark for American" producers to staT.t from. The actors also are to be regarded as pioneers in the' British talkie nVld, for wrfrhth.e exception of Army Ondra, who played.in "The Mankinan". none of them had previously appeared on the screen, although their stage experience was very wide. T4he story concerns a grrl who is engaged to a detective. The couple go to: an ice-rink, where t»he girl meets a handsome stranger. She leaves her lover to go home with him, and on the way he suggests a visit to, ibis flat. He is an artist and offers to paint Her. She consents, but. soon finds that, he has other intentions and in tlhe struggle ?ie is killed. A blackmailer who had the artist in his grasp, now turns to' the girl and iher lover, who is assigned the case. He succeeds temporarily in. ■gaining his end, but a new .witness goes to Scotland Yard, and t-hey discover* him to be a notorious blackmailer wanted on several charges. Finally he is brought to bay. The leading roles in
this picture are played by John Longden, a stage player of considerable note. Army Ondra, Donald- Calthrop, also well known on the West End stage, and Cyril Ritchard, the young Australian who recently appeared in "Picadilly."
