A WORTHY PIONEER
HIS NINETIETH BIRTHDAY.
Mr Thomas Bodgers of Pahnerston North, who is acknowledged to-be Wellington's first „ child born, celebrated his ninetieth birthday on Friday last Born at Petone on February 29, 1840, he spent the earlier part of his life in the Hutt Valley and later took up land in the Manawatu which he fanned successfully, retiring many years ago. Bfir Rodgers is blessed with good health and possesses a remarkably keen humour. He still takes a deep interest in affairs of this country and at 6 a.m. almost daily is eagerly awaiting the morning paper
A correspondent makes the suggestion which we heartily approve of, to the \ Mayor and Councillors' of- Petone and tower Hutt, of the naming of a street in memory of such a pioneer referred to, and to the few j»oneers_that are still left, as well as to those, worthy ones who have gone.
