Lon Chaney's Latest Film BreathTaking.
Sta,r Plays Engineer in Absorbing Series pi Adventures that makes "Thunder" his best picture.
"Thunder," the" new ' Lon Chancy starring vehicle, a. Metro-Goldiwyn-Mayer sou"nd Synchronized production, whioh opens at the King George TheatTe o nWednesday, Thursday and Friday, is decidedly a worth-while entertainment for it tells a hiuiuan interest story and is set against abackground of mighty thrills a-nd adventure. '
There is deft characterisation,in it, too, as, of course tJiere alwa-ys is, in a Chancy picture. There is also romanice, speed and authentic atmosphere. It also shows the beautiful Phyllis. Haver in what she -has announced as her farewell to the sereenV
Permeating all the scenes is breathtaking adventure. Thundering locomotives rush . out ■of the dark like fixebreathing monsters; a crack limited races "the Mississippi flood—and winsmen sacrifice-their lives'for their calling and so on.- AltogetherI"Thunder " is just about the most thrill-crammed picture ever presented.
Chaney's role, that of a lovable old engineer, is vastly different from any of his previous citaracterisations. It is not on the order of the grotesque but is, instead, intensely poignant and human. As old "Grumpy" veteran engineer, he appears to be always growling, neveT satisfied with anything, but underneath he idolises Ms sons and lit-
tie grandson and worships the traditions of the road ie has served so long.
In every respect "Thunder" is a saga of the railroads. It iaa fairly caught the sweeping and relentless force of the giant, locomotives 'and the spirit of the men who operate them. Phyllis Haver, James Murray, and tiie rest of the cast are superb.
