"■" "I beg to inform, you- that it is in- . tended to provide for the establishment of a dual exchange system of the- aivsti*-. , matie type by which subscribers will !be able to^ receive .service in accordance with theiT individual requirements, i.e., (a) local service only to all subscribers in the Lower Hutt area or (b) general intercommunication with Wellington subscribers in addition" to t&s Lower Hutt subscribers. For local service only, the rental will remain as at present, with the ordinary toll charges for communication with Well- __ ington and elsewhere. - For general communication jri.th Wellington subscribers in addition to Lower Hutt local subscribers, the rentals willbe those ap? plica.ble to Wellington base-rate area' plus a special loading rate. It is nofi . possible at present to state definitely; what loading rate will be supplied. This rate must necessarily be dependant to a great extent upon tSie cost of then apparatus, and this cannot be assessed until tenders are received and the coat of the installation known to the Dißpartment. I have to assure you that matters are being expedited as mucK as possible with a view to affording the new seTvice at the earliest possible date."
