Mr E. F. Hollands, who was recent!}* appointed Engineer and GeneTal Manager of the Hutt Valley Power Board "has now taken tip Ms duties anl with his wife and two sons" is temporarily residing in Totara Crescent. Mr. Hollands was a veTy prominent resident of Timaru ''and besides being connected with many associations -iield the important position of Justice of the Peace in the ,town. On the eve of his departure he was the recipient of many handsome testimonials and presentations. Commenting editorially on November 18th, upon Mr. Holland's resignation, tie "Timaru Post" says:— "To-day Mr E F. Hollands, Gensral Manager of the Eleetrieal Department of the Timaru Borough Couacil, will sever his connection with the Municipality, having .accepted an important position as engineerrnianager under the Hutt Electrical Power Board. If is now just over three years since Mr; Hollands assumed control of tiie local Electrical. Department It cannot be said that he found it in an up-to-date condition. The new General Manager found himself under the necessity cf effecting extensive renewals and renovations. The work before him was anything but light; it involved much hard . work. However, with commendable zeal, assisted by an able staff. Mr Hollands set about the task in a manner that quickly'demonstrated that he, was a past master of his profession;' under 3iis direction there' was soon a transformation; the system evolved into a highly efficient one. Thanks to his -efforts, his capacity as a director of work, and his unique qualifications as a leader of men, what was largely an obsolete system underwent a metamor-, pbosis; gradually it -was brought up to date, until now its efficiency is beyond cavil as is frankly admitted by the users of light and power. In bringing about this change, Mr. Hollands has accomplisher a great work for Timaru; he has given the burgesses an example of efficiency worthy of emulation. By his removal to the North Island, Timaru will lose a highly'efficient officer, anl inthis case what will be Timaru ;s loss will without, question be the gain of the'Hutt Electrical Power Board."
