HUTT RIVER BOARD
At the final meeting of the members of the present Board held on Tuesday afternoon, the following motion was moved by Mr C. Gostelowr -'That Ais
Board desires to place on record ita appreciation of the valuable services rendered by the retiring chairman <*n<| regrets that he cannot see Ms way cleaf to seek re-elction." Speaking to--lie motion Mr. Gostelow said "Although we 3iave had our differences, after all that is as it should be, I feel that it would not be fitting for this Board to separate without expressing our oersonal appreciation of t&e time and energy so freely given by' you in the interests of the ratepayers."
Mr J. Mitchell, who cordially supported the motion, said he recalled-^ker chaotic state of the Board's affairs prior .-'to "Mr Strand taking office nine year ago and it was very largely due to the great amount of energy'he had put into the work of the Board that it was in its present sound position!: ' r
Mr Hewer thanked the chairman jV.i the impartial manner in which he liad presided over the meetings and,xeferr?d to t>he great amount of vime arid energy he had devoted in th-e interests of the ratepayers.
Mr Smith endorsed the remarks of the previous speakers and said he -^ was pleased that tihe valued services of Mr Strand would be placed on record in" the annals of the Board, v
In acknowledging the felicitations cf the members Mr Strand: said that- tie kind remarks of appreciation.-, meant moTe to him than he cotild express in words. Although he felt that he; couid not continue on the Board 'Jie assured them that he would still maintain £»isinterest in its operations and possiblyat some" future date seek re-atectioa.
By the unaiiimous wish of the meair bers Mr' Strand agreed to .supply 5 photo of himself to be permanently hung in the Board room. , .
