ROSE SHOW

The Hutt Valley Horticultural Society is again to be complimented on the beautiful rose show -held last week:

It Had generally been expected that, owing to the lateness of the season; there would be some difficulty in finding exhibits'. Happily t&is' was jiot the case for not only was there Un excess in* numbers but, it was generally admitted, the quality _of the blqpms. had not been equalled for many years and in consequence the judging .particularly in the Open; Classes was founds to be no sinejeure. .' :

The Show was officially,, opened by the Mayor, Sir. A, F. Roberts,'who was accompanied by the Mayoress.

The trade. displays formed a most attractive and instru.cli^e feature. Mr. H, Pdole had a nice colleetion;'of pot plants including primula, .obcbnica, ferns, iris, hydrangea^,, e'oleus, etc. Messrs F. C. Pilcher and Son had a striking displayy crowned with, a fine., spray of roses;: also amarillas, a fine display, of maidenhair fern and beatiful young copper beeches in pots. Mr. A. Riddif ord had a fine display of antirrhinums,.Mrs. D. S. Patrick a choice selection pf J rhodendrons. M/.H.*E. Edwards hiad.a very fine display of pansies including several novelties. Mr. G, A: Chapman' exlhibited a -monster decorated baslcet of Groses mingled with artistically tinted ferns. • Thß exhibit was unique and was_ greatly ad-' mired for its beauty and originality.
