HUTT VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL.
The '■monthly meeting Of the Hutt Valley High School Board "of Governors wa.s held o nThursday evening. There were present -Capt. Olphert, who preside .1, and Messrs Jas. Kerr, J. C. Burns, H. Sladden and J. Stonehouse,
Mr. H. P. Kidson, the secretary, reported that a committee had been formed to woTk in..the interests of the Baldwin Memorial Hall and that it. was expected that the campaign would be started in about two -weeks time. The Minister had been interviewed and the committee felt. confident of his assistance. : In reply to t>he Board's request for provision of manual training rooms for both boys and girls, the Education Department stated that it was difficult to find funds for the purpose -and that facilities were offered for boys at the Hiitt Technical School and for girls at the Petone Technical School. The Board considered that the accommodation at t'hec Hutt Technical School was fully taxed and that as it was eonsidere'd lijpst essential that every boy should receive some manual train-, ing the Department' should be" asked to provide a worjd-work "room and that che work be proceeded with immediately. I; was decided that it was not desirable to send the girls to Petone arid that the Department be asked to supply sewing machines for the gills and i&ai in addition they receive instruction in Art and Hygiene It was decided to obtain an estimate ox the cost of laying down two hard courts for the girls. On.the motion of Messrs Burns and Stonehouse it was decided to record the congratulations of the Board to the principal, staff and scholars,. on the result of the recent teachers' examinations. The Board expressed appreciation and thanks to Mr. K. Cairns-Lee for the gift of a complete boxing ring, to Mr. F Campbell for the gift of a picture, and to Mrs. G.--W. Adams for a set of illustrations of N.Z: Plora. . No satisfaetbry tender having been received for the shelter shed, the chaiiv man offered to provide specifications so that fresh tenders'.could be called for. % -' ■ In reply to the Board's enquiries an insurance company quoted premium rates for accident in connection witSi the miniature rifle range. It was deeifled to take out a public risk policy when, the range was ready "for use, probably next term. • The stairways having worn smooth and become dangerous, it was decided to place a contract for ■ the ■ repair of the tread.
