BOARD.

A round-table .conference between the Hutt River Board and representatives of various sports bodies in connection of the leasing of Qear Island was held on Tuesday "night: "-The chairman of Jhe Board, Mr, W. T. Strand, presided.

The chairman' spoke of tiro unanimous desire of the Board" to do all possible to bring-. about the -setting, aside of this area for sports purposes. He then invited the representatives of the sports bodies to view the matter from every angle.

. Speakers included representatives of the Wellington Rugby Union (Messrs J. F.-Prendeville.and J. N". Millard, ami Major King); the Shandon Golf Olub (Mr. G. H^>Ai gwan.).; the Wellington Hpekey Association (Mr. S. Browne); Wellington Cricket Association ■ (Mr. Aldersiey); bowling, croquet and tennis interests (Mr. Whitenian); and ;a ; representative from t»iia Amateur Athletic. Association. " ,• . -''■■'.■•.

-I'l'-Avas suggested -by the .representative of the Sirandpa Grolf Club that a corporate body, be set up repre' sentative of all the-sporting interests 'wiih the idea of leasing Gear Island from tie -ITutt,.'River Board f,or sports purposes, and that meetings be-held immediately with a view to finalising %r----rangements.

The Board will discuss the matter more fully-at its next meeting.
