One of the most progressive businesses in the Hutt at it&e present time is the stationery and book selling business conducted by Mt. and Mrs. tjeorge Blake at 186 Main Street—"The Sfcim with the Red Sign."

Mr. Blake originally started business at Moera but six months ago, not finding sufficient scope for Ms class of business in that limited area, decided to come into the more thickly populated shopping area of Main Street; Both Mr and Mrs Blake iave had experience, of this class of business in tfce Old C untry and Mr. Blake comes of a family connected with 'one of the oldest newsagency businesses in London, The most casual observer cannot fail to be impressed with the appearance of1 the shop even from the street. The windows are always bright and attractive, giving evidence «f tradesmanship. in t3ie conduct of tie business. The inside of the shop ka» a smart appearance and indicates at once that the proprietor not only takes pride in it but has the hand of tike artist in displaying his wares. Tike s-helves are well stocked with a goott assortment of current literature at prices that cannot fail to attract those in search of good reading, or those en the look out for gift books. A large assortment of periodicals is attractively displayed including journals' for the

children, technical publications,, besides a great "assortment of English, Australian and American papers an* magazines for the general reader. iLazge orders have been placed for popular New Zealand Christmas Animals a*d those wi&hing to secure supplies for the English mail may place their orders now and avoid disappointment. General office stationery is also stocked and a new supply of general stationery has just come to hand, including some very novel and attractive eompendiums. A good stock of fireworks has also been laid in, in- readiness for the young folk on the historic Mfth.' ,
