HUTT VALLEY SWIMMING & LIFE-SAVING CLUB.

The third annual meeting of the Hvtt Valley Swimming and Life-Saving Club was held in the Council Chambers last Thursday evening.

Mr. E. Mclntyre presided over a large attendance of members

The following annual report was presented and adopted by the meeting:

Carnivals. —One carnival was held on 7th I'ebruary and it was a huge success being well patronised and conducted, there being, visiting swimmers from the Championships held in Well-

ington.,

Evening meetings were well patronised and were a keen souTce of enjoyment to competitors and spectators

alike

Donations—The Club is deeply indebted to Messrs Blakistone (2 cups), Beasley (one cup), and Simpson (trophy) for Ladies' Eace. Thanks are due to these 'gentlemen who donated handsomely to the club funds. On account of satsSactory financial perdition the club purchased a shield and presented to the boys' relay.

Schools.—During the season the cJub inaugurated relay competitions between schools in the Hutt district. The Club ■Shield was won by the boys of the Hutt Central and the Blakiston Cup by the girls of th-e "Wilford School.

Miss Simeon won the Beasley Cup for

ladies

J. Logic won the Palmer Cup over the distance of .440 yards and E. MeIntyre the Beasley Cup

Miss P. Price 'and Master It. Henderson failed to attain National Honours but swam very well and are to be congratulated on repressing the Wellington Centre,

Improved form was shown by a number of younger swimmers and also by some' of the older swimmer, and the prqspeet of new members from outside centres point to the club haying a very successful season.

The p.rofit on the year's working was shown to be £25/18/9.

The chairman expressed regret at the loss of Mr. Monteith as secretary to the club, and moved that the secretary convey to him the club's rregrets and appreciation for past services.

The following notice of motion, moved by Mr. Mclntyre, was adopted: "That the membership fee be reduced to: full members 2/6 j juniors up to 13 years 1/; and school children free.

Mr, Mclntyre pointed out that in other clubs where this small charge was made foT membership it had resulted in a largely increased membership.

Mr, Bousfield then moved his notice of motion: "That the office of secretary and treasurer be made two offices./ The motion was carried.

Mir. Bousfield reported that he had attended a meeting of the New Zealand Swimming Centre and the local club had been promised a visit from the two visiting Australian swimmers, Messrs Ryan an:! Grier *

Mr. Penhall complained that t>he children who had won swimming certificates last year had not yet reeeivedtherru This soTt of treatment was discouraging to the children and he thought that t>he attention of the Centre should be drawn to the matter.

Mr. Boulsfield explained that -the matter had been brought up at the last meeting of the Centre and the certificates would be issued immediate-

Mr. Penhall said t&at a great deal might be done to popularise the club 'by'elrcb members making it known that instruction in swimming might be had/ free either from himself or members of the club. He advocated that a week be set apart for this when each one of them would concentrate npon teaching as ; many' as possible tp.e art of swimming. ... ' /

The matter was referred to the committee for consideration and feport.

Attention was drawn to the poor quality of the small spring board, and it was deciled to ask the committee

to make representations to the Baths Committee.

The question of the club making an effort to raise funds to provide some heating accommodation for the baths was discussed. It was thought that if the club could raise possibly £500 the Council might be induced to subsidise the amount.- —Beferred to the General Committee for consideration,

On behalf of the club members Mr. Mclntyre presented Mr. little with a set of table knives on the occasion of his recent marriage. Mr. Little had been a very active member of the Committee and he was asked to accept the present as mark, of esteem from his club friends.

On the motion of Mr Bousfield it was decided to place on record the club's thanks to Mr. Mclntyre for his valued services to the club.

Twenty-two new members were rolled.

Votes of thanks to the chair and the Press concluded the meeting.
