GAS BOARD.
A meeting of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board was "held ■last week,. Present: Messrs W. G. Lodder (chairman), E. Hogg, V. Jacobson, C. P. Brockelbank, W. G. Meldrum, S. Clendon, W. T. Strand.
The Minister of Railways wrote acknowledging the Board's letter of appreciation^ in supplying \ Newcastle coal when the Board's supply had run Out. —Received.
The Glasshouse Growers wrote asking the reason why they could jaot get a supply of coke.
It was decided to notify, the Growers that every effort would be made to keep them- supplied, but they should lay in stocks in the summer. The secretary reported that there was a big demand for coke during the winter months and the supply was distributed as fairly as. possible." He suggested that the growers should lay in a stock during the -summer.
The chairman stated that the Board was using coke from Wellington so- that local people could get the local coke which was of a higher quality.

The Board decided to contribute to the Borough Council an additional sum of £25 a year towards the clerical work, local consumers.
The -treasurer presented the half-year-ly statement which was considered very satisfactory, considering the high price paid for coal and the condition of the works.
