In his pocket memorandum book Mr. Gary has jotted maxims -he 'has evol'/ed from experience. The fact that a Lower Hutt audience is "cold rj is frequently commented upon by performers. At the performance given by the Operatic Society on Monday evening the audience was pro.bably the most'demonstrative that has filled the large- .hall fox a very long time. It was quite • refreshing and most encouraging to the. performers to receive the frequent applause which on several occasions caused the actor y-s words to be drowned by the laughter and applause of the audience.
T«he Hutt County Council "has been in communication with the Government for a considerable time urging the widening of the Belmont Road. Arrangements have'now been finalised and a gang of men started on Monday morning, on the widenig of the road from Belmont Station to Owen ..Street. The* widening of this highway should prove a great benefit to residents of this locality.
