A reserve was leased from the Borough Council at a very reasonable rental and the first courts were available for play at the beginning of >ke present year. Two vconcrete courts and fout chip courts were available by the middle of the season and t>he. membership had grown to one hundred. During the winter four grass coiiYts- aave been prepared tinder the very able supervision of Mr, Gr. A. Chapman, of Woburn Road, and these will be available fox play during the coming season. The courts will provide sport for fwo hundred and fifty members at a fee well within tiie Teach of all. The encouragement of young players is one of the club's ideals and to ttis end the promising school pupils recommended by Mr. "W. J. Melody are admitted free to the club's membership, while the counts are made availaole gratis to High School pupils for orxztiee under supervision. Th.) members-hip is now1 approaching the two hundred mark and is fast tilling. ' The official opening of the club will riot take- place this season until the grass courts are .-available in November, but enthusiasts are already practising' upon the hard -courts. Certain inconveniences will have to bo put up with by members until the shelter trees grow sufficiently to serve thoir purpose, and the club's finances permit of the extension of the pavilion. Everything" now points to a veTy successful season" during 1929-30 *nd with- the- co-operation of members the Borough will soon be in possession of another A^ery attractive asset.
