HOCKEY.

SENIOR "A"

The Varsity A v. Hutt match was a. ding^long struggle from beginning to end. Throughout both spells t>hc stu- . dents played with better combination than the local men. In the first half this was particularly noticeable and at half'time the score was 2-^0 in favour of Varsity. Lewis and Simpson were the scorers. After the interval Hutt played a much improved game and were unlucky on- one or two occasions in not scoring. Both sides played a long passing game, which was well adapted to the / heavy state of the ground," and there were many lively incidents. Varsity again held the upper hand in the second spell and Simpson scored another goal as the -result of a penalty 'bully against J.: Ross. Tie final score Was Varsity 3, Hutt 0. It is regrettable to state that the first two goals w.ere scored during, the absence of the right wing and left half, who were fifteen minutes late on the ground. . j Will ruenrbers of the club please note that owing to the lack of attendance at the training gymnasium, it will be discontinued fox t-he remainder of the season, all due thanks toeing extended to the trainer, Mr. Fred Skinner. SENIOR B. v. EAJJOEI. A very fast and interesting game resulted in a win for Hutt. , From the initial bully Hutt pressed hard; some very good passing movements among tlie forwards Tesulted in sho^s for the goal which narrowly missed. Later T. Mathews executed a good run up the wing and shot for goal, -hitting the goalie's pads and glancing off into the hands, of Hodgkinson who hit the post. In the second half the ball came out of a melee; to the edge of the circle where C. Bell was waiting for it. He put in a nice shot past t>he goalie's pads into the net. From a corner later on in the game, P. Judd shot but the ball was stopped when A. Ferguson managed to find the net._ The final scoie was thus 2-M) in Hutt's favour. The team played one of-the best games of the season. Forwards comibined very well; the halves are a little slow .in hitting, especially the left half, who was beaten for the ball by a fraction of a second several times; just a little faster would make a world of difference. Dr. Hickey controlled the game. JUNIORS. Junior A lost to Eetone 2 —nil. Junior 8.-- defeated Wesley 7 —nil. THIRD GRADE. Hutt were defeated by Wesley 10—0. Only eight members turned out. It is preferable for members who cannot be there to let their captain know.
