ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS
"Amateur" writes: "I have several climibing roses, such as Souv. de Lconie Vienot, Noella Na/bonnaiid, Heine Mario Henriette etc. These bloom well in early suni'mer, but I cannot get them to. bloom in autumn. Is my system of/pruning 'at fault,, and how can I obtain autu-.nn flowering-from these and other clinibhig varieties?"
Reply: Souv. Vie Leonic Vieuno.t rarely, if ever, blooms in autumn; Noella Na/bonnand and Reine Marie Henriette should bloom continually when- established. All climbers go to wood, the first two years, and produce very few flowers. - The long runners should be tied down in June or July each year. As climfbers bloom from the old wool, they should be lightly pruned for three years, after this they may be .cut more severely; but only cut out wood that is exhausted and bend down the previous year's wood instead.
