LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The committee of the Moera 'Free Kindergarten has arranged a Carnival Night to be held in the Moera Hall next Saturday night. As this is the final social effort of the present committee no pains are being spared to make it a success1. It is hoped that the public will roll up in large nutwbeTs to assist tihis worthy object.
The Hutt Bowling and Tennis Club's socials are proving very attractive and are being well attended. A further social evening with cards and dancing will,, be held next Monday, All members and their friends should make an effort to support their club in this social effort,
The number of legal practitioners in Lower Hutt has been swelled by the advent of Mr. Erie E. Hogg, who has commenced practice in offices situated in P.O. Buildings. Mr. Hogg has been recently associated with the Wellington firm of Messrs D. M. Findlay and Moir having for some twelve months acted as locum tenens for Mr. G. H. Moir during the latter's lengthy illness. Mr and Mrs Hogg have taken up residence in Queen's Road.
» An interesting social event took place at the iome of Professor and Mrs Goodly when they entertained as" guest the Bishop of Ballaret, lately arrived from San Francisco. The evening was spent very charmingly, though the professor appeared rather ill. at case and his eye was unaccountably black. Miss Alvina Starlight and Cissie, t?he Goodby 's ward, were both very interested in the conversation of the Bishop. "A notable absentee was Jones. What happened to him?
On Sunday evening next Mr Howard, the Labour member for Christehurch South, will deliver a 'lecture in .1 he Mocra Hall on his tour through Africa with the Parliamentary delegates. The lecture has been arranged by the looal branch of the Labour Party and-should prove very interesting.
The many friends of the Young Women's Christian Asoeiation will have an opportunity on Friday next, August Itsth, of showing their interest and giving their practical*sympathy to help the funds of this worthy cause. At the request of the Board of Directors, Wellington, Mesdames Kersley and "Mitchell have "been appointed to organise tlii i -effort. The shop lately . occupied by Mr. E, Horman next Mr. Cairns, and which has kindly been lent by Mrs Bell will be stocked with choicest home made cakes and sweets, beautiful flowers and vegetables in season. Goods will be on sale at- 10 a.m. Gifts in money or kind will be thankfully xeceh en and acknowledged.
