LOWER HUTT FREE KINDERGARTEN
Last Saturday will be a day long remembered by the children and parents of Moera when the social committee of the Lower Hutt Free Kindergarten, assisted by the principal Miss Biley, and her assistants, held a monster fancy dress party in the Moera Community Hall.
There was a -large crowd present who ""witnessed a granet aiepiety,.a&a..th£ committee's thanks are extended to the ! mothers who went to the trouble of dres^ sing the little ones in fancy costumes, especially as they had such short notice. In order not to disappoint any of the children who did not receive prizes^ Miss Riley presented all with- a packet .of sweets. "The judges, Mesdames Kirby and Williams had a difficult task to select the prize winners, owing to the general exeellenee of the costumes. However, their-, final decisions were meet with the best approval. The social secretary, Mrs M. Hoare wishes to thank Mesdames Milsen, Nicholls and Douglas for suplying the music which helped the entertainment considerably. During the afternoon games and dancing were indulged in and while afternoon tea-seas being prepared by the committee. Misses Riley Dawson and Gordon amused the children in displays, etc* (The" prize list is as follows: — Best Nursery Rhyme—".Mary and her little lamb," Margaret Douglas; "Old woman in a shoe,' y. Florrie Hughes. Most Original Costume :■ —'' Santa Glaus," Billie Davies; "Harem lady," Leslie \Dodd. Most Humorous Costumes.— -'' Doctor Quack," Mavis Kite; "Luggage," Roy Savoury. ; . Consolation Prizes: —"Fairy," Joyce Carson; '' Fireman, '' Billie Goodfellow; ' ' Scout,'' Bruee Hawkins; ' Cook,'' —. Smith; "Queen of Hearts " Myra Hoare; '' Little 80-Peep,' J Jean Stewart. The function was brought to a finale witli a jcy night,- when a large crowd j assembled and danced to the excellent music of Pascoe 's ■ Orchestra. Novelty dances wore also introduced and a tasty supper helped to make the evening a i most enjoyable one. j
It is interesting to know that Moera possesses one of the largest kindergarten classes in the district and this speaks volumes for those in charge.
