HUTT .15, UPPER HUTT 3
Approximately one hundred enthusiasts braved the ', weather to see . thi3 game. .The ground was. covered' with water, the players finding it most clifiieuit to keep their feet, consequently back movements were rarely attempted(, although two tries were, secured by passing rushes. Hutt's final sebrij was a dry weather movement and, one of the neatest bits of play seen on the local .ground *this season. Mclvay'fielded the ball 'from a drop out and passed to Baker,- the leather passing , through the liands ..of Peeney,,. Wood, Dowsett to: Alexander, r who shot over in the corner for a most speetiaeular ,try., The first try ;was-'the I result of -a- nice' run by Watts who fickled a weak clearing kiekv and,- cutting infield, '-''.passed .to Alexander at tho right moment, ,the, five-eighth scoring close to the corner. ;'-.Wood and Sii'inlgrcon also scored and Dowsett kicked a penalty. The/red: forwards, played together much.. better than Upper Hu ; tt whose efforts were" more, in the ."solo 3* line;: , With .conditions such as reigned on Saturday there^ is usually, an. element :bf luck att'aelied to the scoring of 'tries^ providing both sulessplay the correct game. However the visiting teani failed to adapt thenisejyes properly^ to; 'the conditions and consequently had to acknowledge dcf«sa| -by a/f aiir maTgln. ; The yisting full back impressed,'"particularly in the first -spell/;^by.,;his very; sure ihanaling of the^ balL"" Most people we're under the imjpressibnCthat the player referredl to was Dpuglas, k the usiial full back. The' player/ concerned j Condliffe, usually fills the roll of five-eighths. Nees was ;another back whp adapted' Mniself to the jilay veTy well. Ross, in. the forwards/ was conspicuous for some •good dribbling: On the local-side Peck gave a very'sound.display, closely followed by Roberts,- Wood, Hinton, Baker and Sunagreen... - -Hurrell spoilt some jjbod. play by two.; or three, glar^ ing breaches :of the off-side rule. Jarman was well, tested, at full back. In almost every instance he had to field the^ball from tae^grpund and. was never found, ■wanting:' in. this rospect. He made; only one slip, which cost his side a try, but itv was more than counter^ balanced- by Ms other work. *._Watts1 was very satisfactory, and : - surpri|jed' everyone by-Ms footwork.- Russell too : played the correct, game on the day. McKay/ Alexander "and Feen,ey were, not found wanting. Smith, filled the role of half-back \ and; LconfiTmed the opinion that he is 'a very' sound wet weather player. Dowsett .adapted himself to the conditions in good style and led -the majority,-of. rushes in the op-
ponents' territory,
