HUTT RIVER BOARD

A meting of the Hutt Biver Board was held last evening. Present: Mesrs W. T. Strand chairman) J. Mitchell, C. Gostelow, W. H. Smith, F J. Hewer. Mr Sladden, Engineer, was in attendance. A tender was received from the Hutt Valley Gun Club for 4£ "acres at Taita at £5 per year* . r i It was decided" to offer the Gun Club a five years' lease of the land at a rental of £10 per annum. The Engineer (Mr Sladden) presented tlie following report:—Drayline operations in Waiwetu Creek: The Drayline plant has now been assembled and is un-> der steam. On Monday morning acutal operations are to continence. Waiwetu Diversion: Messrs MeArthur Bros will be able to make a commencement of the dredging between the training walls in about nine days' time. The hull of the Vendex on which" is being erected a^ ( crane has been caulked '-.an-ci made~ ready for use, and preparation and "installation of. the crane is in hand. Boat Harbour: I have in hand soundings and survey for' the purpose of preparing a preliminary , plan and estimate. This is in pursuance of the decision arrived at on Saturday last when the members of the Board met the members of the Boating Club at~the locality. Western Arm: Up to the present all investigations and examinations j made indicate that the level is - not any higher than before the arm was closed, but that on the contrary it is lower. The Board decided to ask the Borough Council to agree to the removal of the old footbridge over the Waiwetu stream and leading to the Maori Pa. It was decided to ask the Wellington City Council to remove the obstructions of the pipe lines aerds "fclie Awamutu stream. . " ■■■'' V The Shandojfl Golf Club wrote-stating that they, are prepared to offer the sum of t.-\:l per annum for as long a term as the Board,is prepared to-granfr for approximately one half of the Island. The Board decided to call tenders for a lease of the land for five years. • The Enginer was instructed to prepare a plan of the land available at the estuary showing roads available.
