MOERA NOTES
SEVENTHS v. MEBAMAB A
Playing five men short the Sevenths put up a plucky resistance against Miraruar A at Strand Park" on Saturday. The score 14-3 was by no means an indication of the game; as the Moera team were the aggressors for the major part of the game. A heavy shower made things uncomfortable for the boys throughout the match and'"the ground resembled a quagmire. Towards the conclusion of the first spell G. Perkinson landed a goal from well 6ut r which considering the state of the ball was a great effort. Keen and Corkin. were the outstanding forwards, while Jones,, Burns and Perkinson were the best of the backs.
M. Burns was very reliable at fullback on Saturday and handled the greasy ball in great style.
Keen and Corkin are a pair of wiling workers in the forward, but had very little support from the remainder of the pack.
Jones is a great little tackier and let very few past him
G. Perkinson lias put-up a notable performance to date, in having compiled more than half the points registered "by his team. This boy has a kick that would do credit to many higher grade players.
The Juniors won by'~default from ■Selwyn on Saturday. Had the match eventuated, no doubt there would have been a regular mud scramble as No 1 grtfund at Strand Park. was practically under water. Although the Juniors have not met with a great measure of success up. to the present, it is quite apparent to the most jcasual observer that they rare a greatly improved combination. Those who have seen the team in action have no hesitation in- maintaining the forwards are equal if Hot superior to any pack in the Junior • competition, but the backs-have a good deal to learn in regard to cohesion:' A tendency to too: much individualism in the rearguard is detrimental to any team and until the boys can rectify this solo effort they cannot expect to win matches against ' a team of backs that have any semblance of combination. Eunson heads the scoring list up to last Saturday with Awahau a point behind him. . . -
The Club has now quite a number of -SUT3HQxtfiri_an.d._that.—hamS af._roil]iii£L -"""worKers, the Committee, are very confident that next season will find Moera in a strong position in Rugby. A noticeable fault with No 1 ground at" Strand Park,' is the condition of the touch lines which are practically obliterated. With the line umpires it is almost a matter of guesswork as to when the ball is )but or not.
During the last few weeks there has. been much confusion over the personnel of the coach of the Moera Rugby Seventh grade team. The Club desire to-niake it known that Mr C. Burns has been officially appointed to this position, Mr Perkinson, having some weeks ago severed his connections with the team. ~
