HUTT VALLEY DRAMATIC & OPERATIC SOCIETY.
' Follow^ing the xeeent successful production of "The Private Secretary," by -the ' Hutt Valley -Dramatic and Operatic Society, it is now announced that the society is proceeding with yet another comedy farce '/What Happened to Jones." This production was to -lave been given some considerable time-' ago, and 'local.interest was very keen to see it, but owing to unforseen circumstances 'the show was postponed, Now, with a new caste, whole-hearted enthusiasm, 'and the popular demand, the production, is under way in earnest
nd will be given in the very near future in aid of . the Weslyan Boy Scouts Camp Fund. ( '.
At the same time, this young and ambitious society are proceeding with rehearsals for the musical* Comedy "A Country Girl;" and 'lope to have that ready for presentation in August.
It is with considerable interest that we follow the activities of this, our local theatrical society,, and from recent "and past experience, we know that they are,' fulljjr,'- deserving of our hearty support, both frqm the quality of performance they give,, us, and the worthiness of .their objects. That there is
considerable talent in Lower Hutt is certain, and a Ideal body of this sort is just' the thing that Is needed to .bring sueh-vtalent to the foTe. Opportunities are presented to- all who have such talents to have them brought out and improved under the eajpable and experienced direction of the producer of the Society,. Mr." Assheton -Haribord, whose career upon the professional stages of England, Canada and U.S.A., has been such as to place him in the front ranks of his profession. The Society is to be congratulated in securing such a man for1 its producer, .and with, such a capable director at its head, should quickly^ rise to a very' Tugfr standard of' excellence, as indeed, ■ its recent progress has shown.
We understand that there.are vacancies in the society for all voices jfor the prodii!ction of "A Country Girl" and intending members should apply to the secretary,^ Mr. A, C. Seeats, Main Street, Lower Hutt. May we, as represneting the public of Lower Hutt, lend' our Support and influence to the' encouragement of the society which: fakes its nam© from, and has its being in the Hutt Valley. %
