A particularly large crowd attended, the Wellington trails being well filled; Patrons from Palmerston North and 'the surrounding districts were also present in large numbers. The track was a trifle dead, but for winter racing the going was really' in firstclass order. , . - The Tararua Hack Hurdle Race was won by-Lady Gay, Was run at a funeral pace, and was a most uninspiring contest. Modern, jumped very badly, but improved immensely yesterday. Lady Limond» scored a comfortable win in the'principal flat event from Paitonu and Briar Root. ;
The Kuku Maiden Plate was a good thing •■for Zarene. Trench Raid, :, making his first appearance in public, ran a fair race into fourth place, and looks likely to improve on it before long. Shrewd was scratched for the Rau-. kawa Cup owing to the. serious illness of his owner,' Mr A. Symes. Metellus was a hot favourite for the Te Horo Hack Handicapi High Society was always going like a : winner. .
