HUTT VALLEY HOCKEY CLUB.

Under Junior auspices Hutt ."A" entertained 'Huia "/A" in a scrappygame on the Lower Recreation G-round. Wihen the teams lined but the local eleven were two men short, the vacancies being in goal-and on the right wing. Huia were at full strength ■ The game opened even but only five j minutes elapsed ere Burkett netted for the visitors. , The ganW was fast with Huia having grouind advantage but. the Hutt deferiee was giving little away, although their :forwards were not combining much. After afeout fifteen, minutes play Hutt fielded a "Third" player\who arrived from his 2 p^clock game at Petone, and filled the right wing vadaney, Hutt now haying' ten men. Shortly before half time Bennett on the left equalised, making the half time score) one all. '/

Tie second half opened with Hula pre.ssing hard, the local forwards not being seen to advantage. The game resolved itself intp Huia forwards v:

Hutt" defence, but Hutt were still hplding them well. With about; ten min\utesto go, Bennett was let' loose on .the left and after a, good solo run put tie. locals in the lead.

Huia we're now more determined than ever and the last ten minutes saw them hem the reds in their own twentyfive, except for spasmodic breaks away. How.ever, the Hutt defence and a little, luck held them at bay and the final whistle saw Hutt leading by two goals to one. The Hutt forwards are. too prone to.leave their positions an i come too far back with the result that- when tie ball is cleared by the halves there is. no one to receive it. Each man lias his own job and a forward's job is not to defend. The' Hutt players raquire to do some training.
