The Mayor and Cr. Bbberts were'ap- j jpointed the' Council's representatives ! to the conference of local bodies on town planning. . The cost of preparing the report on j town planning the Valley will be borne by the Government. On the motion of the Mayor it was resolved that the Gala Committee receive the same financial support from the Gbuneil as in past years. T?he Workers' Educational Association was granted permission to use *he Council Chamber for meetings tin Thursday evenings. , . Owing to.the short notice, it may not be possible for the Loans Board to meet and. consider the Hutfr Borough, Council's roading loaiu in time for the poll to be taken on Ist May. On the motion of Cr. Mcßain it wus decided to purchase a motor car for the use of the chief ib'uilding inspector. Tihe type of ear which is" not to exceed £30|O will be-decided by Crs. EobeTts, Campbell and the engineer. A" considerable amount of traxi hire will be saved by the council having :ts own car. . ' Cr." In reply to-Cr. Hobbs, Or.'- Roberts stated that about £350 would be fo.-fc!i-eoming from the Public-Works Department for formation of tar-sealed footpaths in the Hall-Jones estate.

Cr. Roberts reported that the Wo^ks Committee .has decided to lay the footpaths on the Knights Estate with cold mix. Instructions have also been -^iven ttf"earry put similar work in Valentine street. . .

On the motion- of Cr. Meßain the allocation of. the grounds for Sporfs Bodifcs will be the same as last year. Cr. Meßain pointed out that the* shortage of sports grounds would be very acutely felt this year owing to the large number of new football clubs being formed in the district.. The matter of providing suitable grounds in the Moera district was particularly a.cute for the new Association Football Club being formed there and he-advo-cated the use of a section of land for this club's use which lies between the ramps. It was decided to make application to the. Commissioner of Crown Lands and also to bring the matter under the notice of the member for the district, Hon. T.M. Wiilford.

Cr. Meßain asked the Mayor if it was a fact that some ratepayers had applied to the Town Clerk for permission to peruse the Minute Book of the Council-but had been refused that permission. He stated that much adverse criticism had, on account of that refusal been levelled against the" council. The Mayor, in reply, stated that one or two applications .had been received and refused but that, in future, the perusal" of the Minute "Book would be freely allowed to ratepayers requesting same, conditional of course, on the book not being out of the Town.Clerk's room. Cr. Meßain stated that he wished to protect the .officers of the Council and was quite satisfied with ; the Mayor's reply.

The engineer was instructed to schedule the cost of the septic tank and pump proposed to be erected in the industrial area, (and also to make provision for the abolition of the HeaEh Street septic tank, with *a view to applying for a loan." . .

"The Mayor stated that the borough has never been so short of road metal \as at the present time.

The Loans Board advised that the application, of the Council for permifsion to raise £20,000 ;for tar-sealing was being held over for investigation. The Mayor gave an assurance that., the proposal would come before the ratepayers, at 'the earliest date possible.
