TENNIS NOTES
During the past week-end members of the Featherston Tennis 'Club paid their annual visit to the Lower Hutt Club, Twenty players arrived and found the conditions awaiting them ideal. On arrival morning tea was" served, by the lady members of x the local club, which was much appreciated. Combined Doubles were then commenced and some good games were witnessed. After the game the players and a few friends walked through the delightful grounds of Biddiford Park which was much admired by the visitors. The party then arrived at the Lounge, where Mr. J. M. Power had arranged dinner. After luncheon the games were continued when there was a large number of onlookers, who were all keenly interested in the various matches. A"fter.the games had all finished the captain of the Featherston Club thanked the members of the local club for the enjoyable day they had 'spent at Lower Hutt. Mr. Kennington, president, on behalf of the Tennis Section, in a few well chosen remarks suitably replied and called for cheers for the visitors. The local players are looking forward to the return match in three weeks' time. The tennis^ommittee wish to thank all who helped to make the day such a success.
A commercial traveller put up for the night at a small country inn. In the breakfastroom the following morning he" was asked by the' landlord how he had enjoyed the cornet playing in the bedroom next, door during the night. "Enjoyed it," eried vthe bagman, "1 should think not,i indeed! Why, I spent half the night pounding on the wall to make that cornet lunatic stop." "I am afraid there;has been a misunderstanding," said the landlord. "The cornet player told me that the person in the next room applauded him so heartily that he played ©very piece he knew five times over."
